Soil in Your Community

As we walk from our house to our cars or offices, we probably don’t think about the members of the Soil Department hard at work. But everyday, animals such as earthworms are moving through the soil, turning dead plant material into soil particles. Then there are the ground squirrels and millions of ants that turn and loosen the soil, which helps plants establish and grow. When you see patches of fresh soil on the ground surface, you will know that Soil Department workers are doing their part to keep your local ecosystem healthy!
